Internship In Vitro Pharmacology

Byondis is an independent Dutch biopharmaceutical company, based in Nijmegen, that focuses on developing innovative medicines against cancer and autoimmune diseases. We are driven by one goal: to develop new treatments to improve the standard of care for patients.

The In Vitro Pharmacology Department is looking for a Bachelor or Master level student for a second internship or gradutation internship period of preferably 6 - 9 months starting Aug/Sep 2024.

Project:
In vitro functional profiling of novel Byondis compounds, such as small molecules, antibodies and/or antibody-drug conjugates

Investigational drugs and antibodies will be profiled for their binding potencies to cells, cell killing capacity, induction of apoptosis and other properties. We will mainly use mammalian cell lines and optionally primary human cells to learn more about the efficacy and safety of drugs. Our functional assays are designed to study the mechanism of action of drugs for indications important for cancer control and immuno-oncology. We are testing cancer therapies that either directly affect tumour cells or that activate the patient's immune system to fight cancer.

Techniques and methods:
Mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, (live) cell imaging, cellular assays such as cellular binding, cell survival, proliferation, and apoptosis.

Role of the intern:
The student will work under supervision of two Byondis employees on an individual research question. In the beginning  of the internship, the student will specify this research question by executing a limited literature study. It is the intention to explore this research question with different techniques. The intern will be part of a small team within the in vitro pharmacology department in which the results will be presented and discussed. All the data will be reported in an electronic lab journal.
