Can Byondis be the next step in your career?
Byondis is an independent Dutch biopharmaceutical company, based in Nijmegen, that focuses on developing innovative medicines against cancer and autoimmune diseases. We are driven by one goal: to develop new treatments to improve the standard of care for patients.
Research Scientist Biophysical Characterization
The role
The department of Analytical Development and Quality Control (ADQC) plays a key role in Byondis’ development and manufacturing, as biotechnology-derived medicinal products cannot be designed, improved or used without extensive and accurate analytical measurements. Therefore, we take pride in providing high quality analytical information to ensure the safety and efficacy of our innovative products for patients.
ADQC is responsible for all analytical testing to enable the development, manufacture and use of biotherapeutic products for toxicological assessments and clinical trials. The department develops, qualifies and applies a broad panel of analytical methods to characterize new biological entities such as monoclonal antibodies and antibody drug conjugates.
For this purpose, a range of sophisticated analytical technologies is available, ranging from chromatography, electrophoresis, mass spectrometry, spectroscopy, microbiology to cell-based assays. ADQC comprises a diverse and multidisciplinary team of about 45 people with in-depth knowledge and experience in various analytical areas. We always seek collaboration and are determined to provide answers rather than test results.
The Research Scientist Biophysical Characterization will be part of the Extended Analytical Characterization Team within Analytical Development that is responsible for the in-depth, non-GMP, characterization of all molecules in CMC development at Byondis, meaning proteins (monoclonal antibodies), small molecules (excipients) and the combination of both: antibody-drug conjugates. Activities include: analytical development and execution of biophysical methods, including spectroscopy (e.g. CD, FT-IR, fluorescence), thermal analysis (e.g. DSC) and light scattering (e.g. DLS, mass photometry), for a variety of purposes, including support of process development, comparability studies, qualification of reference materials, etc. Next to that, providing troubleshooting support and addressing scientific questions arising during the early development of Byondis’ therapeutic products make up an integral part of our activities. Lastly, keeping up with developments in the field through surveying literature as well as internal and external interactions, is important.
